I hadn’t planned to be writing in a new notebook today, but it was a joy to open up my handbag and to see the new notebook ready for me to write in. Especially this notebook, with the words “today is the perfect day to start something.’
It certainly was the perfect day to start something.
Today I sat down to finally edit a paper I’m writing for my studies at university. I had the printed file of the mark ups, my computer, my coffee, and I was ready. But, I had forgotten the notebook I’d written additional notes in, and after about a minute into this editing project I realised it was a bust. I was frustrated and annoyed at myself, as I was wanting to make progres with this paper. This was the one job I really wanted to not just do today, but right now while I was in a cafe.
However, not all was lost.
I did have a new notebook with me, and as well as other pressing writing projects that needed attention. I sat and wrote by hand. Not what I had planned, but I did make progress, and I enjoyed writing.
While this wasn’t the project I wanted to work on while in a cafe, by going to plan B, I could salvage the day, and get on with creating. Being adaptive to the situation pays off.
I just had a minor panic as I couldn’t find my two favourite pens! And I’d just sat down to write at a cafe!
After a few deep breaths, and taking out my trusty cheap BIC pen I decided to look in a different section of my bag. There they were!
Lucky! One of these pens were a gift, and another a special treat to myself, so I was annoyed they were lost. While I can write with any pen, there’s more meaning when I write with these because of the story behind getting them. And this can help with the creative flow. Or at least with my frame of mind when I sit to write, which in turns influence the creative flow.
And the flow was good this morning! In which I’m grateful for 💖
First day of holidays and it’s time for self reflection and thoughts of the future.
It’s hard to think what my life will be like in a year’s time, but I do know that it will be very different from now. I look forward to sealing the letter and opening it in a year’s time. I wonder how much will have come true? And if I care if it hasn’t? Will something better have happened in my life?
I’ve also taken the time to write a letter to myself about the highlights of this year so far. There have been a lot. It will be a joy and perfect reminder to also open this letter in a year’s time to remind me how much I’ve traveled, to show how far I’ve journeyed, and that I have grown even though at times it might not feel like it.
Time for some dreaming as I write.

I treated myself to a new Lamy fountain pen. I can’t stop using it and I’ve switch to more handwriting just so I can use it!
This treat to myself is definitely paying off in creative currency! The ideas and flowing along with the words.
The iced latte is a change because it’s a hot spring day and I’m in need of a cool drink as well as my daily caffeine hit!
Treat Day! Coffee, raw donut, and time to write. Plus I get to use my new fountain pen! This is my heaven for a Saturday morning! A peaceful way to bridge between the end of the working week and the start of the weekend 💖
How do you like to treat yourself?
