Clearing my mind

Journaling this morning after my Pilates class.

Perfect start to the day 💕

Grateful for me time and being able to write to clear my mind.

Productive Morning

This morning’s cafe writing was enjoyable, there was flow, cafe vibes and of course coffee.

I didn’t like what I wrote by hand.

Oddly, I felt it was a productive session.

Sometimes it’s about just getting the words out right now. Not later. No procrastinating. Just getting on with it.

That’s what’s this morning’s session was all about. As well as a good cup of coffee. By getting the words out, whether good or bad, it means tomorrow I can more on to writing the next scene. That’s creative productivity! 💖

Getting Goals Sorted

I’m excited to try these books to help organise my writing journey; the Author’s Diary, and The Novel Handbook both by Lauren Clarke.

While I’m more of an organic writer, go with the creative flow, and throw out the goals, I do recognise that using tools like these books can help ensure I keep progressing my writing journey. After all, there are parts to writing and being creative that requires a bit of structure from time to time! Both daily, weekly, monthly and yearly. Hence the Author’s Diary for 2018. Plus it will be an interesting record of what I do this year and something I can use to reflect on to see if there are areas that need more attention than others for next year.

The Novel Handbook, is all ready to help plan out the next novel I write, whatever that may be. Normally I use notebooks which I often temporarily misplace, so don’t always have the basic details of characters or story development handy when I need it to be. So I’m hoping by having this book, I can easily enter character and story details and find it later without having to turn my house upside down!

Also books like this inspire me to get planning and organised and that’s always a good thing.

Do you have any prompts or writing tools that help you write it journal? Please share below in the comments.

Old Haunts

Today I decided to go back to one of the cafes where I was Cafe Poet in residence a few years ago. The Annex Cafe, which is much different now, with new owners, a more open space and new menu, yet the vibe was familiar. Perhaps it was my memories that haunt me and make it feel familiar?

Sometimes it’s nice to visit new cafes, but then again it’s just as inspiring and good for the muse to write in one of my old haunts.

A productive morning writing, not bad for the start of the weekend. And I’m sure it’s got everything to do for visiting a cafe where I used to write a lot, and to re-connect with my muse who lives here.

This old haunt might just have to become a regular once more.

Starting Again

The tangle of yarn in the photo is the result of un-doing my current crocheting project. Sometimes, even with a plan or instructions to follow things don’t always turn out right.

There’s nothing wrong with unpicking, unraveling or deleting words in your creative project. It’s part of the process, but it’s just not seen in the final product. Which is why I’m putting up this photo. It’s a reminder of the true creative process. The bits that have gone wrong and need to be fixed. Things that don’t need to be feared or to weigh me down or stop further progress.

This isn’t quite the back to the drawing board sort situation, but there’s a big pile of yarn waiting to be crocheted again. This will take a good few hours in the afternoon to catch up to where I was. It’s all worth it, especially as I think if the final product. And that’s part of the key when having to re-do part of the creative project. Not to think of what’s lost, but what will be gained and the finished project.

Going backwards is sometimes just part of the creative process of going forward!

Connecting with Dreams

Once again I’ve turned to the colouring of mandalas to help me. This time it was to help me connect with the dreams I have for 2018. Thanks to my friend Rebecca at A Blissful Existence for the mandala and related ‘pondering’ questions to answer.

The choice of colour, the geometric design, all helps me to internally withdraw, connect with my soul and listen to what dreams are being whispered, and then to bring them into my conscious thought.

This is a process, an inner journey, calling the dreams, which in turns will help guide me to the paths my soul would like to travel for the year ahead.

The use of crystals helps me to further solidify these dreams in my mind, so they can be like a compass for the months ahead, especially if I lose my way a little (like all good travellers tend to do from time to time!). The colours of the crystals are important, they connect to the colours in the mandala. The green crystals I relate to new starts, significant for the start of the year, but also as the year unfolds, and the new adventures that this year specifically holds for me. The orange crystals I relate to creativity, expression and spirituality, all areas which are very important in my life, especially as an artist.

This ritual while simple, holds many layers, all helping me to connect to the dreams I have for this new year.

I’m ready for my dreams to come true this year!

Happy Women’s Christmas

One of my Irish friends introduced me to a lovely tradition from her country. Women’s Christmas.

It’s an Irish tradition where after Christmas the family puts on a meal for the women of the household to say thank you for all their preparation and cooking over Christmas.

So my friend invited some women and we all went out and treated ourselves in honour of this Irish tradition. A fun night sharing a meal and drinks and conversation with fellow women.

Happy Women’s Christmas to you 💖

Lost and Found

I just had a minor panic as I couldn’t find my two favourite pens! And I’d just sat down to write at a cafe!

Don’t Panic!

After a few deep breaths, and taking out my trusty cheap BIC pen I decided to look in a different section of my bag. There they were!

Phew!

Lucky! One of these pens were a gift, and another a special treat to myself, so I was annoyed they were lost. While I can write with any pen, there’s more meaning when I write with these because of the story behind getting them. And this can help with the creative flow. Or at least with my frame of mind when I sit to write, which in turns influence the creative flow.

And the flow was good this morning! In which I’m grateful for 💖

Writing Bliss

What better way to start the day and finish the week by writing! Especially the first week of the new year!

I’m still in holiday mode, so by taking just a little time to write I feel connected to my creative flow and I get my writing fix which sustains my soul! All in under an hour.

Sometimes these snatches of time to write are super valuable and give me a chance to slip into a state of writing bliss.

The Heart of 2018

Once again thanks to A Blissful Existence I’m using the colouring of a mandala and crystals to connect with the new year and set positive focus for the months ahead.

I do find this process relaxing and powerful. It helps me to set my intention and goals for the new year.

There are so many layers of meaning here for me which flows naturally, the colours used, the shapes identified, helps me to set a clear path into the new year in a symbolic ritualistic way.

Through this process I have the affirmation, follow your heart, to guide me through the unknown of the year ahead. By having such an affirmation, I have a sort of compass that’s internal to remind me of what type of paths I want to tread this new year.

And now I’m ready for 2018!
