Welcome 2019!

Happy New Year!

May 2019 shine bright for you.

To welcome in the New Year, I’ve made my own little decoration. The other week I did some marbling with my niece and so decided to use that as a background for 2019. A little bit of fun! Let the adventure begin…

This year, I’ve come up with my usual word to guide me through the year. The word for 2019 is Adventure. I’m sure there are many adventures ahead for me this year, which I hope to embrace with confidence, curiosity and an open mind.

I’m excited with the adventures that have already begun, and those that are continuing in to the New Year. Who knows what unexpected ones will start, and I look forward to them. I’m putting on my adventurer’s hat, and heading off into the unknown of the new year of 2019!

Connecting with Dreams

Once again I’ve turned to the colouring of mandalas to help me. This time it was to help me connect with the dreams I have for 2018. Thanks to my friend Rebecca at A Blissful Existence for the mandala and related ‘pondering’ questions to answer.

The choice of colour, the geometric design, all helps me to internally withdraw, connect with my soul and listen to what dreams are being whispered, and then to bring them into my conscious thought.

This is a process, an inner journey, calling the dreams, which in turns will help guide me to the paths my soul would like to travel for the year ahead.

The use of crystals helps me to further solidify these dreams in my mind, so they can be like a compass for the months ahead, especially if I lose my way a little (like all good travellers tend to do from time to time!). The colours of the crystals are important, they connect to the colours in the mandala. The green crystals I relate to new starts, significant for the start of the year, but also as the year unfolds, and the new adventures that this year specifically holds for me. The orange crystals I relate to creativity, expression and spirituality, all areas which are very important in my life, especially as an artist.

This ritual while simple, holds many layers, all helping me to connect to the dreams I have for this new year.

I’m ready for my dreams to come true this year!

The Heart of 2018

Once again thanks to A Blissful Existence I’m using the colouring of a mandala and crystals to connect with the new year and set positive focus for the months ahead.

I do find this process relaxing and powerful. It helps me to set my intention and goals for the new year.

There are so many layers of meaning here for me which flows naturally, the colours used, the shapes identified, helps me to set a clear path into the new year in a symbolic ritualistic way.

Through this process I have the affirmation, follow your heart, to guide me through the unknown of the year ahead. By having such an affirmation, I have a sort of compass that’s internal to remind me of what type of paths I want to tread this new year.

And now I’m ready for 2018!

New Year Blessings

Happy New Year!

Blessing for the new year ahead.

I’m looking forward to the new, unexpect doors that will open for me, which is both exciting, and scary at the same time!

Also I’m looking forward to more cafe pondering and chewing the fat over life and sharing it. And a lot more journaling.

What are you looking forward to?

Final Farewell to 2017

To assit in saying farewell to 2017, I’ve been working through the booklet by my friend at A Blissful Existence.

I’ve coloured in the mandala, and then arranged crystals over it as a way to release the past year. I find this process is a gentle, yet powerful way to release the emotions and events that shaped 2017 for me. By answering a series of questions I can focus on how I’m feeling about the past year, in a conscious process so that sneaky emotions don’t slip past without processing. mandala release 2017

It’s also a meditative process colouring in the manadal, with a scented candle burning, and relaxing music playing. It helps me to honour the year that was in all aspects not just the good, and then to say farewell. This is my little party to celebrate the past year and to welcome in the new year.

This might look like simple colouring in, but to me, this is much more. The colours chosen tell me something about the hidden thoughts in my mind, and how I’ve coloured the shapes  tells me that there are things in my life which have previously been hidden but are now coming to the surface. This allows me to look at parts of my life which perhaps I’ve not given enough attention, perfect timing as I make way for the new year.

This makes room for the new year, which is very exciting!

Happy New Year! How have you farewelled 2017?

Happy New Year!

It seems that every year is a big year with lots happening, the good, the bad and the ugly. As we say farewell to 2017, I’d like to take a chance to reflect on the year that was.

Three top things that shaped my 2017 are:

3) Beginning Café Pondering blog

2) Starting up a journaling group on Meetups, Inspirational Journaling

1) Teaching ESL students

Of course inspiring family and friends, but that goes without saying 😉

There are so many other things too that shaped my 2017. The little things that whispered softly and can be easily over looked. Like how I made friends with the lady I shared an office with at work. But it was more, we shared creative endeavours, and encouraged each other to write and be creative. There was the signing off on my research proposal for my PhD. A writing workshop over a weekend in Sydney with the HayHouse publishers. Becoming an Aunty again. Starting art classes, with Splashout Art. Publishing my poetry book Fading Farmer, which I had held completed for two years unable to release out into the world. Plus so many other events I can’t quite remember, the ones that were negative and ugly which I will keep from here, as I am looking to release those events to move on to the new year. Like some of the world events, the ones that rock you to the core, the ones that cause the tears to flow, the ones that leave imprints on your heart.

As I remember the ‘good’ and forget the ‘bad’ I turn my attention to 2018.

What am I looking forward to? Right now, there are so many new doors opening for me, some of which I don’t know yet, it is difficult to see ahead for what may come in the following months.

I’ve managed to narrowed the list to three main things I’m looking forward to:

3) Presenting writing workshops (to make sure I do this, I’ve scheduled a Travel Writing workshop early February!)

2) New writing endeavours, writing more ‘life writing’ works.

1) Continuing my research on my great grandma, for my PhD, and learning more about my heritage, as well as growing and extending myself as I study.

I’m also looking forward to meeting new people, sharing my experiences in real life and on blogs with people. Continue my art classes and developing my skills with oil paints. To write more poetry. To simply write and journal and find the flow in life that nurtures me as best I can.

Starting a new year can be daunting. I don’t have a day job to rely on. I’m looking. For now I’ll have more time to write. The horizon ahead is wide with the haziness of the unknown, the forecast continually changes and I am constantly reminded that I’m not in control. But by focussing what I’m looking forward to helps me to move past the fear of the unknown, and allows me to deal with not being in control, because at least I can adjust how I respond to the situations. And by being grateful for the year past, and particular events, and interactions is a positive way to say goodbye, and move on.

Please share what you are grateful for in 2017 below in the comments and what you are looking forward to in 2018.

May 2018 bless you,
